Have a 3-hour drive through the decent desert road that is very well cared for. After about 1.5 hours you will have an interval to stretch legs, get a drink, or freshen up. Then continue the drive for another 1.5 hours to enjoy an amazing day trip to Alexandria.
 
First, you will visit the rock-cut Roman catacombs, which are the largest Roman Cemetery consisting of three levels cut in the rock, and then visit Pompey's Pillar nearby, which constructed in honor of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century. Originally from the Serapeum temple, which was dedicated to the Bull God Serapis that was glorified by both Egyptian and Greek people. The Serapeum temple was once a magnificent structure rivaling the Soma and the Caesarean.
 
After Pompey's pillar, you have a short drive to see the Qaitbey Citadel which was built on the site of the ancient pharaohs (lighthouse) of Alexandria that was once one of the wonders of the ancient world.
 
Enjoy lunch at a hygienic local restaurant on the Mediterranean to enjoy its seafood and the view.
 
Then you will finish your trip by visiting the gigantic library of Alexandria AKA Bibliotheca Alexandrina to resurrect the glory of the ancient Library, get amazed with the exterior structure or buy your ticket to take a deeper look into the library, its reading hall, and interior Museums before to drive the same way and distance back to your hotel in Cairo.
